I ran today's MP sections at what felt like a relaxed marathon pace, such as my 1st half MP race pace planning for a negative split with faster second half.
Pace (GAP) elev HR
=============
7:13 (7:03) +29ft 135bpm
7:20 (7:20) -14ft 134bpm
Avg 7:13 (7:14)
I wish I could say those 3 miles were a cakewalk, but they actually weren't. While they definitely weren't hard, my accumulated leg fatigue was somewhat concerning in that I definitely wouldn't be able to maintain it for 13+ miles in my current state. On the bright side though, I am expecting the draggy beatdown feeling from last weeks' 90 miles as well as Tuesday's strength run, so it will definitely get better. The one very good point is that my HR was very low on all 3 of those miles - avg was 128, 135, and 134, which is definitely under my estimated race pace HR (145-152 in 1st half) so once my legs back under me from the recovery, all will be good.
I did look up my training in my old blog from 2008, and I was in very similar fitness to my current state. Unfortunately, that resulted in a 3:15 San Diego RnR marathon, so, I think I'm going to have to be conservative in my race efforts unless things really feel a lot better next week after this 60 mile recovery week.
