Easy - 10 miles in the ice!

10 miles - in the Rochester NY ice!

I made a set of 'screw shoes' here on vacation in Rochester NY where it recently snowed and there is ice everywhere.

Instructions here:

Suffice to say, they're AWESOME! Horrible ice-lined streets are completely and easily runnable, even at speed with these screws in my shoes! I used an old pair of sneakers that I hadn't used for anything in ages (they're actually $25 sneakers from target I bought 3 years ago as a 'backup' that never gets used). I honestly wish I had discovered this decades ago - I can't believe I actually look forward to running on ICE now.

The screw shoes also run no problem on bare pavement, so it was absolutely no problem to go between ice/snow/pavement over the 10 miles. Didn't have to worry about footing a single time during the entire run, including 7min/mile descents. It seems that the faster you go, the better traction you get as the screws dig into ice deeper.
