9 days off, and a rough comeback

After 9 days off of running completely due to an awful hacking cough of the flu, I finally returned to running yesterday (Sunday) with 2 miles AM and 3 miles PM on the treadmill. Felt great at first, and cranked it down to 8min/mile, but quickly petered out after 4 miles, and the last 2 were surprisingly tough. The PM 3 miler was terrible, total dragging legs.

Today I had a decent 7 mile outdoor run for the first time in ages, again starting fast at 8:00 clip but dropping to 9:00 by the 2nd half for 8:30/mi. It was actually surprisingly hard on the legs - cardio was fine, but my hamstrings were def feeling it!

Tried to do a lunch double today as usual, but was shocked to find that I couldn't run pretty much at all due to bad soreness in my left hamstring the moment I tried to jog. I ended up powerwalking 2 miles at 15:23/mi, and cranking up the incline to 10% so I was sweating a bunch, but it was still overall totally lame. Hard for me to believe that after all that hard work, I can decondition so quickly, but that's clear the case.

I do anticipate this will all get better quickly, but it further reinforces that I def made the right decision by skipping the Napa Marathon yesterday due to my flu.
